The Bilbies

Privacy Policy

Last updated and effective: November 2, 2026. This version replaces all previous ones.

This policy explains what personal data thebilbies.com collects, why, who else receives it and how you can exercise your rights. It follows Colombian data protection law (Law 1581 of 2012 and Decree 1377 of 2013) and also includes the information required by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other privacy laws for readers in other countries.

Who is responsible

The Bilbies is published by Libreros Media. The person responsible for your data is Ramiro Antonio Libreros Zabala, based in Tuluá, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, who also handles all requests and complaints about your data at animalistasdelmundo@gmail.com.

What we collect and why

  • When you browse. Like most websites, our server records technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the page you requested and the time of the request. We use these records to keep the site secure and working.
  • When you subscribe to the newsletter. You give us your email address so we can send you our stories. Subscriptions are handled by beehiiv, our newsletter provider, and you can unsubscribe at any time from the link in every email.
  • When you comment. We store the name, email address and text you submit, plus your IP address, to publish the comment and to filter spam with a filter that runs on our own server. Your email address is never published. To show your profile picture, an anonymized string created from it (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service.
  • When you write to us. We keep your email address and your message in order to reply. If you send us a story, photos or videos, we use them to review them and, with your permission, to publish them with the credit you ask for.

We do not ask for or process sensitive data, we do not create user accounts and we do not sell products on this site.

Advertising

Ads on The Bilbies are served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the Internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and out of other vendors’ personalized ads at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

In the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google only shows personalized ads if you consent; without consent, ads are not based on your browsing history.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to run the site and to serve ads. If you visit from the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a notice from Google lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time through “Privacy preferences” in the footer of every page. Our Cookie Policy explains which cookies we use and how to turn them off. If you comment and tick the box to remember your details, WordPress stores your name and email in your browser. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Embedded content

Some stories include videos or posts from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok. Before you press play, only a preview image is loaded from the platform; once you open the video or post, that platform may collect data under its own privacy policy.

Who receives your data

We do not sell your personal data for money or share it with third parties beyond what this policy describes. We work with providers that process it on our behalf or on their own account, under their own policies:

  • our hosting provider and Cloudflare, which protects and speeds up the site;
  • beehiiv, for the newsletter;
  • Google, for advertising;
  • Gravatar, for comment profile pictures.

Some of these providers store data outside Colombia, mainly in the United States. We will also disclose data when an authority requires it in the exercise of its legal functions or by court order.

How long we keep your data

Only as long as each purpose requires: comments for as long as they are published, newsletter data until you unsubscribe, messages for as long as the conversation and a reasonable follow-up require, and server logs for a short period. Our databases remain in force for as long as The Bilbies operates.

Your rights

Under Colombian law you have the right to know, update and correct your data; to ask for proof of the authorization you gave us; to know how we have used your data; to revoke your authorization or ask us to delete your data when there is no legal duty to keep it; to access it free of charge; and, after first contacting us, to file a complaint with Colombia’s Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC). By subscribing, commenting or writing to us you authorize the processing of that data for the purpose described, and you can revoke that authorization at any time.

How to exercise your rights

Write to animalistasdelmundo@gmail.com with your name, your email address and your request. For a complaint, add a description of the facts and any documents you want us to consider.

  • Requests for information are answered within 10 business days. If we need more time, we will tell you why before that period ends and answer within the following 5 business days.
  • Complaints (to correct, update or delete data, or if you believe we have broken the law) are answered within 15 business days. If we need more time, we will tell you why before that period ends and answer within the following 8 business days. If a complaint is missing information, we will ask for it within 5 days; if you do not send it within 2 months, we will consider the complaint withdrawn.

If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland

We process your data on these legal bases: your consent (newsletter, advertising cookies); our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure, replying to your messages and moderating comments; and compliance with legal obligations. You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability and to withdraw your consent at any time. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK.

If you live in the United States

Depending on your state’s privacy laws, you may ask us what personal data we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it by writing to animalistasdelmundo@gmail.com. To stop personalized ads from Google, use Google’s Ads Settings. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.

Children

Our stories are for a general audience, but The Bilbies is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has given us personal data, write to us and we will delete it.

Security

The site uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and only people who need the data for the purposes described here can access it. No system is perfect, but we work to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
