The Bilbies
Cookie Policy
Last updated: November 2, 2026.
This page explains which cookies and similar technologies thebilbies.com uses, what they are for and how you can change your choice. It complements our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser to remember something from one page or visit to the next, such as the answer you gave to a consent notice.
What we use and why
Necessary. These keep the site working and secure, and do not require your consent:
- Cloudflare (for example,
cf_clearance) protects the site from attacks and automated traffic. - Your privacy choice (
FCCDCFandFCNEC) stores your answer to Google’s consent notice, so you are not asked on every page. - Google reCAPTCHA protects our forms from spam.
- If you leave a comment and ask us to, WordPress remembers your name and email in your browser for next time.
Analytics. Google Analytics (_ga and _ga_*, which last up to two years) tells us, in aggregate, how many people read us and which stories they enjoy. We do not use it to identify you.
Advertising. Ads are served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies (such as __gads, __gpi, __eoi and IDE) to show ads, avoid showing you the same one too often, measure how they perform and, if you allow it, choose them based on your visits to this and other sites. The partners are listed in Google’s consent notice, and Google explains its use in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Videos and social posts. YouTube videos and posts from other platforms show only a preview until you tap them. Until then, those platforms are not loaded and set no cookies.
Your consent
If you visit from the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will see a notice from Google the first time you arrive. It is a consent tool certified by IAB Europe. Until you answer, Analytics and ads run without analytics or advertising cookies, and without your consent ads are not based on your browsing history.
In US states with their own privacy laws, such as California, Google shows a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link, so you can ask that your data not be used for personalized advertising.
Elsewhere, the site uses these cookies from your first visit. You can turn them off at any time, as explained below.
Changing your choice
- From Europe: tap Privacy preferences to reopen the notice and change your choice. The same link is in the footer of every page.
- From anywhere: you can view and delete cookies in your browser settings, and turn off personalized Google ads in My Ad Center. For Analytics, Google offers the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
